Trauma (Poem)

My trauma has turned me into a runner,

My trauma has turned me into a fighter,

When I’m scared I become a fast runner,

When I’m scared I become a fighter,

Yes, I’m a fast runner and a great fighter.

Yet it doesn’t feel like it’s a good thing to be a fast runner because of trauma,

Why is it only a good thing for athletes to be a fast runner?

Yes, the athletes run because of a competition and not a trauma,

So what if we both have different reasons for being a fast runner?

Why can’t we both be awesome for being a fast runner even if a reason is trauma?

No, it also doesn’t feel like it’s a good thing to be a great fighter because of trauma,

Why is it only a good thing for athletes to be a great fighter?

Why can’t you also be amazed by my fighting skills even if it’s because of trauma?

Why can’t we both be seen as an awesome fighter?

Why am I the only one being judged in a negative way for being a fast runner and great fighter because of trauma?

Silly stop saying I’m crazy,

I’m not crazy,

I’m awesome and not crazy,

Being a fast runner and being a great fighter because of a trauma shouldn’t be seen as crazy,

How would you feel if you were scared and were labeled, “Crazy?”
