My Dog (Poem)

I held my dog tightly while fear took over,

The tears spilled one by one,

I couldn’t stop the panic from taking over,

I couldn’t stop the tears from falling one by one,

I let the panic take over.

My dog could sense something was wrong,

He let me hold him tightly,

My dog didn’t need to ask, “What’s wrong?”

My dog knew I needed to hold him tightly,

My dog has always been there when he felt something was wrong.

My dog that I rescued from the shelter became a dog that rescues me,

His life would’ve ended in the shelter,

Yet destiny said, “I was supposed to rescue him and he was supposed to rescue me,”

I was destined to go to the shelter,

I was destined to take my dog with me.
