I Shouldn’t Be With You (Poem)

I can’t keep doing this,

I become afraid every time you open your mouth,

I can’t keep enduring this,

I shouldn’t be with you if I’m afraid of the words that come out of your mouth,

There’s no good reason to endure this.

I become afraid that you’ll raise your hand,

Your hands aren’t gentle hands,

I’m afraid of your hand,

I’m afraid that you’ll hurt me with your hands,

I should let go of your hand.

I’m longing for a gentle love that you’ll never give,

I’m longing for a gentle lover,

I’m leaving you for someone who’ll give me what you’ll never give,

I’m leaving you for a gentle lover,

You can go find someone else who’ll be satisfied with the kind of love that you’re willing to give.
