Religion and Marriage (Poem)

I was raised Catholic,

He wasn’t raised Catholic,

There are so many requirements for a Catholic,

A Catholic Priest doesn’t marry a Catholic and a non Catholic,

Still I married someone who isn’t Catholic.

We chose a judge to marry us,

My love isn’t religious,

A judge didn’t say no to marrying us,

The judge didn’t care that my love isn’t religious,

We became husband and wife because a judge married us.

We didn’t let religion stop us from becoming husband and wife,

We didn’t follow the religious rules,

We broke the rules because we wanted to become husband and wife,

We chose to follow our hearts instead of the rules,

It’s our love that mattered more when it came to becoming husband and wife.
