Old Me vs. New Me (Poem)

Anxiety is a learned behavior,

Taught and learned it perfectly because of my father,

He taught me how to have an anxious behavior,

Thus, I guess I should thank my father,

Yet I learned that hard work can change this behavior.

I must change everything my father taught me,

What he taught me to be right is what I must learn to prove wrong,

I must change who he taught me to be,

Leave behind what’s wrong,

Become a better version of me.

I no longer want to be who my father taught me to be,

I must stand strong against the old me,

I must fight hard to be who I want to be,

Thus, it isn’t a battle against my father and me,

It’s a battle against the old me and the new me.
