Hard Work (Poem)

I worked so hard in school,

I was a quiet teenager that lazy people copied from,

I felt so lonely in school,

They weren’t friends if they used me to copy from,

Yet it didn’t end when I graduated from school.

College students also took credit for the work that I did,

I was still a quiet college student,

I still allowed others to take credit for the work that I did,

I still felt like a lonely student,

I still remained silent when another put their name on the hard work that I did.

It even continued when I worked for a company,

The lazy manager took credit for the work that I did,

I stressed so much for that company,

Yet the manager didn’t do as much as I did,

She even treated me like crap in the end for deciding to leave the company.

Another company also ended up taking credit for what I did,

I worked overtime without pay,

Yet another got a manager position after taking credit for what I did,

I stressed so much over little pay,

Thus, this became another company that I left after taking credit for what I did.

So why didn’t I speak up?

There wasn’t any proof when I was a student,

Who would’ve believed me if I spoke up?

So I let it go and continued to be a student,

Eventually, the hard-working student is the one that moves up.

So why didn’t I speak up?

It was me against a manager,

No one would’ve listened to me if I spoke up,

Thus, I quit because I got tired of dealing with that manager,

Eventually, I’ll find a job where I’ll be heard if I speak up.
